(KLZA)-- Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer High School has forfeited its two remaining varsity football games because of a shortage of players and injuries.
Following a meeting Monday afternoon, school officials decided it was in the best interest of the student-athletes to end the Titans’ varsity season.
HTRS had already forfeited two games earlier this season because of a lack of players. The Titans were able to play only four of their eight scheduled varsity games.
Athletic Director Taylor Dunekacke notified the Nebraska School Activities Association and the two remaining opponents of the decision.
In a letter, Dunekacke said the decision was not made lightly, but was necessary to protect the health, safety and well-being of the players.
The school also thanked its coaches and student-athletes for their dedication throughout the season and expressed appreciation for the support of families and the community.
