(MSC News)--Consumer prices in the Midwest rose 0.9% in September, with energy prices posting the largest increase.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the regional Consumer Price Index was up 4.2% over the past year. The Midwest index includes Kansas and Missouri, but does not measure prices in either state separately.
Energy prices rose 3.2% for the month and 22% over the year. Food prices were up 0.2% in September and 2.6% from a year earlier.
Core prices, which exclude food and energy, increased 0.8% in September and 3% over the past 12 months.
