(KAIR)--An Atchison County investigation began Sunday into the theft of several thousand dollars worth of construction tools from two enclosed trailers.

A release from Sheriff Jack Laurie says deputies responded to the 19000 block of 258th Road Sunday morning around 7:30, following a report of theft and criminal damage.

Investigators determined that sometime between 8:00 Saturday night and 7:00 Sunday morning, someone cut the hinges off both trailers to gain access.

Among the items stolen were nail guns, an air compressor, a generator, drills, saws, a blower and batteries.

Laurie says the stolen tools are valued at more than $3,000, with additional losses from damage to the trailers.

The investigation remains ongoing.
