Playground vandalism prompts statement from Atchison Co USD 377

(KAIR)--Recent incidents of vandalism at a playground in Effingham could result in the facility being closed to the public after hours.

In a social media statement Wednesday morning, Atchison County Community Schools, USD 377, reported that someone threw chunks of asphalt throughout the preschool and kindergarten playground at 306 Main Street, including onto playground equipment.

District officials also believe asphalt was thrown at the building's doors, cracking the safety glass.

The district says it wants to keep the playground available to children outside school hours, but continued incidents could force its closure.

Anyone who witnessed the incidents or has information about those responsible is asked to contact the school district.

Officials say no police report has been filed at this point, in hopes those responsible will come forward voluntarily.
