Saturday morning crash claims life of Atchison man

(KAIR)--A two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in the city of Atchison claimed the life of a 45-year-old Atchison man.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 10:30 Saturday morning near the intersection of Kearney Street and North 12th Street.

According to the patrol report, a Ford Bronco driven by 50-year-old Johnnie Ross of Atchison was traveling eastbound on Kearney Street when it failed to stop at a stop sign.

A southbound Toyota Echo on North 12th Street, driven by 45-year-old Chad Starling of Atchison, attempted to avoid the Bronco. The vehicles did not collide, but Starling lost control, struck trash cans, and then hit a tree.

Starling was transported to Amberwell Atchison, where he later died. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Ross and his passenger, 52-year-old Tanna Ross, also of Atchison, were not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
