Livestock exhibition facility proposed for Jefferson Co Fairgrounds

(KAIR)--A proposed 140-thousand-dollar livestock exhibition facility at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds is under consideration by the Jefferson County Commission, with the goal of having it ready for next summer's county fair.

According to unofficial minutes from the October 26 commission meeting, Jason Roenne, representing the Jefferson County Fair Board, presented the proposal for a new facility estimated to cost 140-thousand-60 dollars.

The project would support 4-H youth programs, agricultural education and community activities, with plans to use local contractors, suppliers and labor whenever possible.

During discussion, Commissioners Doug Walbridge and Richard Jobbins suggested an alternative that would involve renovating an existing building for livestock and constructing a new facility that could also be rented for community events.

Commissioner David Christy asked how much funding the Fair Board currently has available to contribute toward the project.

Commissioners took no action on the funding request, telling Roenne they would get back to him regarding the proposal.
