During this weeks City Council meeting in Falls City one of the agenda items was a request from the Main Street Committee for $30,000 funding from the City.
Second Ward Councilman Mike Moore, a former President of the Falls City Chamber said he would like to see the City provide $30,000 to the Chamber as well. ( play audio :19 seconds )
Moore said he sees the Chamber, EDGE and Main Street working together, but one without City support. ( play audio :32 seconds )
Main Street Vice President Tony Brunette said the Main Street Committee and Chamber Board of Directors are currently looking for one person to serve as director of both entities. Moore said he is not a fan of that idea. ( play audio :22 seconds )
Another former Chamber President and former Mayor Rod Vandeberg was in the audience Monday night and said he did not think throwing $30,000 at the Chamber was going to solve the problems of the organization. ( play audio :56 seconds )
Moore said he feels city funding to help support the Chamber would help the organization refocus their efforts on merchant support and no fundraising to stay alive. ( play audio :36 seconds )
Vandeberg said he felt the Chamber needs to be a solid working organization before you put in the money. ( play audio :21 seconds 0
No motion was made to give the Chamber funding during the meeting. The annual $30,000 Main Street pledge was approved for the next three years by the Council.
