The community of Everest will be a hot spot of activity this weekend, as Memorial Day ceremonies are held Saturday. Billed as “Stars and Stripes for Ever-est,” the third annual Military Honor Ceremony will begin at 1:00 in the Everest Middle School Gymnasium, and then move to the park for a flag ceremony and 21 gun salute, at 2:00. Reuben Sullivan is the Chairman of the Everest Park and Military Honor Guard(Play Audio) The flag ceremony will include raising the “Stars and Stripes,” for the first time, on the new 35-foot Everest flag pole. That will be conducted in honor of the MIA, KIA and POW heroes from the Everest community. A commemorative brick, for each of the eleven honorees, will then be put in place at the new Flag Plaza(Play Audio) A special guest of honor will also be in attendance for the day of ceremonies, as Harley Davidson Executive and Decorated Marine Colonel, John Lowry, will serve as Keynote Speaker(Play Audio) Dubbed “Heroes and Harleys,” Lowry's presentation will focus on the long running connection between motorcycles and the military, and will include stories about motorcycle related acts of heroism during military service.
