Atchison County’s Emergency Preparedness office has a new addition.
EP Director Wes Lanter told Commissioners this week that he’s hired a new administrative assistant.
Connie Pantle of Effingham will begin her duties around the end of the month.
County Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen says the hiring will strengthen the department.

Commissioners also learned this week the women’s restroom and ADA elevator project has come to a temporary halt.
This is why the east entrance to the courthouse has been temporarily re-opened.
Bodenhausen says contractors ran into a snag on both projects.

He says the contractors are expected to meet with Commissioners Wednesday for a monthly progress update.
Also, Bodenhausen says the intern has about one week remaining in data collection for determining potential solid waste fees.
Commissioners will not meet on Monday due to the Memorial Day holiday.
