The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced that Wathena and Blue Rapids are among sixteen Kansas communities that will share a total of nearly $4.4 million in federal grants through the Community Development Block Grant program.
Wathena will receive a $400,000 grant to upgrade the city’s electrical system. Bonds and local funds will provide nearly $643,000 in matching funds.
Blue Rapids will receive a $140,000 grant to replace or rebuild the storm sewer in the city. The city will provide nearly $124,000 in matching funds for the project.
