George F. Bolz, 93, of Hoyt, Kansas, passed away on August 1, 2024, in Holton, Kansas.
George was born on May 20, 1931, He was raised on the family farm near Hoyt, the son of Frank and Barbara Stadel Bolz. He attended Point Pleasant Country School and graduated from Hoyt High School in 1949.
George dedicated his life to farming and worked at Goodyear in Topeka for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed helping at Wege- Feed Service in Hoyt, where he cherished his time with the Wege family and formed special bonds with Kenny, and later on with his sons, Kendon and Jase when they were toddlers. He loved all the visits with the customers, most of all he loved when the boys affectionately called him, “Papa.” George took great joy in teaching them skills such as making paper airplanes, riding bikes, and playing catch. He took great pride in being involved in Kendon and Jase's lives as they navigated high school and pursued their own goals, offering them cherished advice along the way. He also enjoyed spending time with the Robert Olberding and Dale Wege families.
He later moved to the Wege farmhouse to be closer to the store and continued to assist at the feed store. George loved spending time with extended family, enjoying holidays, celebrations and dinners with Kenny & Donna Wege and family. In 2022, he moved in with Kenny and Donna and developed a special bond with Toby, his Bichon poodle, teaching him tricks and enjoying playful times. Evenings were spent watching Wheel of Fortune, sharing laughs with Kenny, and reminiscing over classic shows on MeTV.
George will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed.
A devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents and dear friends Willard Duffield, Gilbert and Nina O-hea, Dale Wege, and Leona Olberding, along with other close cousins.
George is survived by his beloved family, including Kenny, Donna, Kendon, and Jase Wege; Jamie, Lucas, and Garrett Love; Janeil, Mitchell, Jaxson, Cooper, Kinley, and Hudson Stevens; Sheila, Michael, and Oliver Nelson; Pat and Lois O-hea; the families of Dixie Wege and Robert Olberding; and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 7th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to Hoyt Livewires, St. Francis Xavier Bldg Fund, and RV Baseball, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 280, Hoyt, KS 66440.
