Janice Ann Morgison, of Perry, died peacefully at home on January 22, 2026, just 8 days after her husband passed away. Their lives were deeply intertwined, and in her final days she followed him with the same devotion that defined their marriage, leaving this world as they lived in it, together.
Janice Ann Cossaart was born on May 6, 1942 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Lorene (Lesovsky) and Leslie Olin Cossaart. Raised on their family farms in Washington County and Narka, KS, where days were long and hands were busy. She recalled as a first grader, her father took her to school on horseback, moments that reflected both the time she grew up in and captured her upbringing regarding values and family. She was a lifelong member of the Narka Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star. Janice actively participated in 4-H and county fair activities for many years as a young girl, sewing, cooking, and showing her animals. She attended Narka Rural High School with a total of six students in her class and was involved in Kayettes, newspaper staff, pep club, sports and cheerleading. She went on to Kansas State University, graduating in January of 1964 with a degree in Business Administration. At KSU, she met her lifelong love, Floyd Morgison, they were married February 3, 1964 at Danforth Chapel on KSU Campus in Manhattan.
Janice faithfully supported Floyd as he pursued his teaching and coaching career, while raising their children. She was often seen sitting in the bleachers at basketball games, helped keep statistics, and meticulously kept scrapbooks of high school basketball records and news articles. While living in St. Marys, she supported the family not just by being a mother and homemaker. She was a wonderful seamstress and was known for making matching outfits for herself and her daughter, as well as some neighbor girls. She also made bridesmaid dresses for several weddings.
When the family moved to Perry in 1974, she began working at the Bank of Perry. She retired from the bank in May, 1999, and began working part time processing loan applications for Kaw Valley Mortgage for five years. In 2005, she began to work part time for the USD #343 working as a substitute teacher and secretary in various schools. She and Floyd also started FloJam Graphics, a T-shirt printing business in their home. But her greatest joy after retirement was the continued arrival of grandchildren, followed by great-grandchildren. They all learned very quickly where Grandma kept the fruit snacks and she always kept them fully stocked.
Floyd and Janice were avid golfers at Lake Perry Country Club, and participated in Couples Club, Men's League, and Women's Club activities. She loved traveling with friends around Kansas for tournaments, and couple’s trips to Las Vegas for golf and gambling. She was known for regularly being able to hit the fairways and for her skills in and around the greens.
Janice is survived by her three children, Kevin (Tamra) Morgison, Perry, KS; Kelly (Doug) Miesner, Parkville, MO; and Kent (Jenny) Morgison, Lecompton, KS; six grandchildren Kyle (Shelbie) Morgison, Rachel Heston; Sierra (Gavin) Swearngin, Emilie Heston; Jacob Morgison, and Conner Morgison, and six great grandchildren, with #7 on the way: Kayden, Kolt, Everett, Brynlee, Cort, and Lathe. Other survivors include brother Marvin Cossaart, Salina, KS; sister Pam Crowe, Shawnee, KS; and sister-in-law Charlene Tuma, Belleville, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, and a brother, David Paul Cossaart.
A joint Memorial Service for Janice and Floyd will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Perry United Methodist Church, Perry, KS. Visitation Gathering will follow from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Tuesday at the Perry American Legion Post #142 in Perry. As per their wishes, Cremation Care is planned. Inurnment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry, KS.
The family requests donations to be made to the Morgison Family Endowment Fund, sent in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, 1220 Walnut Street, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.
"They lived as one and now they rest as one". The family of Floyd and Janice are grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received.
