Norma Joyce Rodvelt, 88, of rural Horton, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Atchison Senior Village in Atchison, Kansas.
She was born on September 6, 1937, in Belleville, Kansas the daughter of Clifford and Lily (Novak) Grossner. Norma grew up near Hiawatha, Kansas and graduated high school in Willis, Kansas. She married Morris A. Rodvelt on February 8, 1956, at the Zion Lutheran Church north of Everest, Kansas.
Norma worked on the family dairy farm from 1956 until 1999 farming with her family and tending to the livestock. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, having a huge garden to feed her four sons and daughter, sewing and making her grandchildren and great grandchildren homemade quilts, playing cards (everyone knew NOT to set Norma in Pitch) and working on the farm. Every dairy cow had a name, Norma always kept track of each family's birthday and anniversary. They were marked on the calendar each year for her to send them a card. Between her family, garden and dairy farm she kept busy all her life.
After her husband died in 1994, she continued to live on the farm by herself until December of 2025. Kevin took over farming. Her dog "Sandy" and two tom cats kept her company. She enjoyed daily and weekly conversations with her family and always enjoyed when the neighbors stopped to say hi. Today we live in a world where everyone wants to be on the internet. Norma never logged on. Norma was her family's internet. She was the glue that kept us together, kept us informed and kept peace in the family. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Wilhelm of Holton, Kansas, three sons, Gary (Donna) Rodvelt of Washington, Pennsylvania, Ron (Susan) Rodvelt of Blue Springs, Missouri and Kevin (Ginger) Rodvelt of Muscotah, Kansas, daughter in law, Exzondria Rodvelt of Horton, Kansas, twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren with one on the way in April, sister, Cathy Iverson of Hiawatha, Kansas and sister in law, Sharon Rodvelt of Horton, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Morris, son, Billy, sisters, Betty, Ruth, Donna, Linda, and brother, Freddie.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Muscotah United Church with burial to follow at the Claytonville Cemetery, northeast of Horton, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the Norma Rodvelt memorial fund to be designated later and may sent in care of the mortuary.
