Richard H. Archer, 89, of Whiting, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born on July 31, 1936, in Horton, Kansas the son of Ira Leroy and Ellen Summers Archer. Richard graduated from Whiting High School in 1954 and then attended K-State University working his way through college and was one semester short of graduating due to his appendix bursting and having to come home. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for a number of years. Richard farmed with his dad for years, then worked for the railroad in Topeka before becoming a carpenter, roofer, fur buyer and raising garden vegetables and produce. On February 22, 1963, he married Barbara Young in St. Joseph, Missouri, she preceded him in death on July 2, 2019.
Survivors include a daughter, Bridget Archer of Whiting, Kansas, son, Brett (Travis) Archer of Boise, Idaho, three grandchildren Bronson Archer, Gaige Kibbee and Austin Archer, three great grandchildren, Hunter, Bryce, and Natalie, sister, Carolyn Shannon of Whiting, Kansas and his nieces. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Richard Archer memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
