Leila June “Lee” McConnaughey, 91, of Everest, KS formerly of Silver Bell, AZ died on Monday, April 13, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Lancaster, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 20th, 2026, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Pastor Elizabeth Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Huron Cemetery, Huron, KS. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Everest Christian Church or the Everest Lions Club and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Lee was born on June 14, 1934, in Everest Kansas, the daughter of George E. and Wilda June (Carson) Behler. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1951. She moved to Silver Bell, AZ and worked as the Administrative Secretary for Marana Grade School for over 25 years. She moved back to Everest in 1999. Lee was a member of the Everest Christian Church, the Everest Lions Club, PEO, and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crosswords and jig saw puzzles. Her favorite thing was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and family.
She was married to Conrad Arthur McConnaughey on June 10, 1951. Mr. McConnaughey preceded her in death on Jan. 28th, 2010, also preceding her in death was her parents, a son Michael McConnaughey and siblings Grimes Behler, Edith Myers, Lois Betts, Kent Behler, and Paul Behler.
Survivors include a daughter Phyllis (Dwight) Scholz, Lancaster, KS, three sisters Linda McCray, St. Joseph, MO, Sharon Gladman, Everest, KS, and Pam Westbrook, Independence, MO, three grandsons Bryan Ford, Tim McConnaughey and Jared McConnaughey, and eleven great grandchildren.
