DeAnn D Goodwin, of Maple Grove Apartments, passed away unexpectedly April 4, 2026, at Amberwell Hiawatha. She was 87.
DeAnn was born September 15, 1938, at Horton, the oldest of three children born to LeRoy and Pauline Hawk Head. She grew up on a farm near Willis, attending country school prior to graduating from Willis High School with the class of 1956.
She spent her working life as a book keeper, first at the Brown County Courthouse, and later at the Big Lake, Missouri Lodge.
DeAnn enjoyed crocheting. She made receiving blankets for premature infants for KU Medical Center in Kansas City, and Hiawatha, along with the Cancer Dept. Probably, these blankets have ended up going all over the United States, if not the world.
She was married to Charles “Chuck” Kloepper for a number of years. Together they had a son Mark. She later married Leonard Goodwin at Oregon, Missouri, June 28, 1968. They lived in Big Lake and Oregon, Missouri before they moved to Mission, Texas to make their home. He died July 4, 2010. She returned to the area soon after where made her home at Maple Grove Senior Apartments.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a step daughter Gail Gauchat. Just Friday, April 10, her brother Eldon Head passed away.
Survivors include a son Mark Kloepper of Hiawatha, a sister Marilyn Brook (Dennis) of Kansas City, grandchildren: Mark Kloepper II (Emily) of Hiawatha, Lindsey Kloepper Hiawatha, Colby Kloepper of Wichita, Maria Kerr-Wenger of Topeka; eight great-grandchildren: Jaydan Folk, Jaxon Folk, Christian Kloepper, Blade Buell, Jeffrey Kerr, Brendon Kerr, Levi Kerr, and Jaydon Kerr.
Services are planned 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Tony French will officiate. Family only inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
