Elaine Elizabeth (Baumgartner) Worden, aged 70, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 17th, 2026, surrounded by family.
Elaine was the eldest daughter of Denzel and Ethel Baumgartner of Sabetha.
Elaine attended Woodlawn Schools until the 5th grade. She then attended the Sabetha School district which she graduated from in 1973. After graduation, Elaine attended a vo tech school in Atchison, Kansas.
Elaine began working for the State of Kansas in January of 1974. She retired in 2011 with over 30 years of service. Elaine was never one to sit still. After retiring from the State, she continued working. She found enjoyment in her jobs at Shawnee County Parks and Rec, The Giving Tree, and The Owl’s Nest.
Elaine’s life was devoted to her friends, her faith, and most of all, her family. Her sons, James and Christopher, along with her four grandchildren, Raiven, Leanna, DJ, and Jace were the light of her life and her greatest joy.
In her free time, Elaine enjoyed traveling. Two of her favorite destinations were Hawai’i and Alaska.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Denzel and Ethel Baumgartner, and her nephew, Alex Baumgartner.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Worden, her sons; James (Charlotte) Worden of Lyndon and Christopher Worden of the home, her stepchildren; Jamie Knight of Topeka, Shawn Worden of Overbrook, and Jackie Schlink of Topeka, her grandchildren: Raiven (Jacob) Davis, Leanna (Darren) Bird, DJ (Brooklyn) Knight and Jace along with many great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings; twin brother Dwaine (Teresa) Baumgartner of Sabetha, Darlene Briggeman of Sun City West, AZ, Jane Herzog of Huntsville, TX, Robert (Patty) Baumgartner of Sabetha, Stacey Baumgartner of Falls City, NE, Russell Baumgartner of Sabetha, Dennis (Lisa) Baumgartner of Sabetha, Mary Addington of Topeka, Shirley Magness of Pinehurst, TX, and Paul (Sherry) Baumgartner of Falls City, NE along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Memorial Service will be at 1PM on Sunday, May 17th, 2026 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4525NW Button Road, Topeka, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a charity to be named at a later date.
