Russell “Russ” James Schuetz, 74, of Holton, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home with family by his side. He was born Nov. 19, 1951, in Horton, Kansas, the son of James L. and Virginia “Ginger” (Jordan) Schuetz.
Russ graduated from Horton High School in 1969. He was a letter carrier for the Topeka Post Office for more than 25 years. After retirement, he worked as a parts manager for Clarks Chevrolet in Holton.
He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
Russ married Bonita “Gay” Lott on Dec. 27, 1969, in Horton. They celebrated more than 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Gay, of the home; three sons, Brad Schuetz (Stacy) of Andover, Chad Schuetz (Tiffany) of Kechi, and Adam Schuetz (Melissa) of Wellsville; two sisters, Vickie Finger (Wayne) of Powhattan and Cindy Shaffer (Brad) of Wamego; a brother, Pete Schuetz (Amber) of Sabetha; 10 grandchildren, Alex, Taylor, Brooklyn, Isabelle, Ashton, Preston, Adilynn, Tavin, Zoey and Ila; and a great-granddaughter, Delilah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ginger Schuetz, and his son, Christopher John Schuetz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2026, at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Mercier. A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening, with visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m., at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
