Joan Anna O’Shea, 95, of Oskaloosa, Kansas, died May 11, 2026, at Lexington Park Assisted Living in Topeka, Kansas. She was born Sept. 9, 1930, on a farm south of Lillis, Kansas, in Marshall County. She was the youngest of nine children born to Anna Runnebaum and Albert Roggenkamp, and was the last surviving sibling.
She married Robert D. O’Shea on July 26, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillis, the same church where Robert’s parents and grandparents were married. Following Robert’s graduation from Kansas State University, they lived in Pratt, Kansas, before moving to Oskaloosa in 1956, where they resided until moving to Lexington Park Assisted Living.
Joan was a homemaker and a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Perry. She loved feeding the birds and sewing, and made clothing and quilts for her family. She also made altar clothes and banners for St. Theresa’s Church, and donated a quilt to the St. Theresa’s Bazaar for more than 25 years. The obituary notes quilts were also donated for grandchildren to be auctioned for the KSU Athletic Department. After Robert’s retirement, Joan and Robert owned and operated a liquor store in Oskaloosa for many years. In 2016, they were selected as Grand Marshals for the Old Settlers Parade in Oskaloosa.
She is survived by a son, Timothy (Debra) O’Shea of Topeka; two daughters, Marlene (Ernie Shuford) O’Shea of Topeka and Diane (Mike) Siegler of Middletown, Delaware; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; a son, Thomas O’Shea; one brother, Ralph Roggenkamp; and seven sisters.
A joint rosary and visitation for Joan O’Shea and her husband, Bob O’Shea, will be held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Perry. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Cremation care is planned, with inurnment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Blaine, Kansas.
