Gary Adaire Ogle, 81, of Dawson, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on February 11, 1945, in Falls City, Nebraska to Martha Jane Harlan and Forrest John Ogle. Gary attended school at Salem High School until the school closed in 1962, then transferred to Falls City High School, where he graduated in 1963. Following high school, Gary joined the Navy and was part of the Fourth Division Fire Control aboard the USS Leahy during its first Mediterranean cruise in 1964. After being discharged from the Navy, he managed a motorcycle shop in Charleston, SC. Soon afterward, Gary returned home and married Sharon Elaine Tiehen on December 18, 1967, and they later moved south to Augusta, Georgia, where Sharon was stationed at Fort Gordon. During their stay in Augusta, Gary worked as an NCR technician and industrial electrician. They welcomed their son, Terry, in 1970.
In 1977, Gary and Sharon moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech. They lived in married student housing while completing their degrees in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, they both accepted positions with the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At TVA, Gary worked in substation design, energy conservation and monitoring. Later in his career, he became the manager of substation supervisory control and powerline carrier. He retired from TVA in 1999 after 20 years of service.
Gary was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a kind individual who was liked by all. He spent countless hours helping family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers build houses, decks, barns, and garages. He wired houses, fixed cars and tractors, and solved his neighbors’ drainage problems. He even assisted neighborhood kids with their science fair projects. Gary was a multitalented individual – he could do pretty much whatever he set his mind to. After retiring, Gary returned to the farm and worked on renovating the Ogle Family farmhouse in Dawson, NE. After starting renovations, he decided to move the house to the top of the hill so he could enjoy a better view — one he shared with Sharon every evening.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Martha (Harlan) Ogle, and his brother, Terry. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ogle; son Terry (Jennifer) Ogle of Clemson, SC; grandchildren Sam Ogle and Emma Ogle; brother John (Cindy) Ogle of Grand Island, NE; and many beloved family and friends.
