Anne Kathleen (Allison) Wertenberger, 55, of Sabetha, Kansas, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at her home in Sabetha, surrounded by family and friends.
Anne was born on July 3, 1970, to Sidney and Janet (Mahan) Allison in Wellington, Kansas. Anne grew up primarily in Ottawa, Kansas, and Osage City, Kansas, and graduated from Osage City High School in 1988. She then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business. While at K-State, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and worked as an usher during basketball games at Bramlage Coliseum. If you were looking for Anne back then, chances are you would find her running around campus or through City Park, as she was an avid runner.
Anne married the love of her life, Doug Wertenberger, on March 6, 1999, and their union was blessed with three children, Hannah, Rachel, and Kirt. Anne and Doug first met at K-State. However, it was while they were both living in Kansas City, Kansas, that they crossed paths once again. Anne and Doug began their marriage by moving from Kansas City to build a house in Sabetha, near Doug's parents. During this time, Anne worked at Wertenberger Transportation, keeping records and dispatching trucks. In 2006, she extended her talents when the company merged with Lone Star Milk, where she enjoyed countless interactions with drivers nationwide. Over the past 18 years, Anne has served as the financial secretary at NorthRidge Church in Sabetha and was a faithful member of the church. Anne had a deep love for God and enjoyed sharing her faith with others.
Anne spent most of her adult life caring for her children. Her utmost priority was ensuring their relationship with God and that they lived a healthy, joy-filled life. She enjoyed attending all the events her children participated in, including basketball, tennis, track, swim team, band concerts, and going to gem shows. She always enjoyed being physically active, whether that meant going for walks or runs, lifting weights, or doing water aerobics.
Anne’s battle with ovarian cancer began in January of 2025 and ended with her surrounded by her family and friends as they sang hymns and rejoiced in God's goodness and grace.
Anne was preceded in death by her father, Sidney, on November 26, 2016; her father-in-law, Phil Wertenberger, on May 23, 2023; and her cousin, Jason Allison, on May 1, 2017.
Anne is survived by her husband, Doug Wertenberger, at their home in Sabetha; her daughters, Hannah (Darrin) Funk and Rachel (Carlos) Soriano, both of Sabetha; her son, Kirt Wertenberger of Sabetha; her mother, Jan Allison of Topeka, Kansas; her sister, Kim (Dean) Krouse of Shawnee, Kansas and their children, Bailey (Owen) Haake of Mission, Kansas and Nathan (Taylor) Krouse of Overland Park, Kansas; her mother-in-law, Linda Wertenberger of Sabetha; her brothers-in-law and their families, Paul (Christina) Wertenberger and their children, Sara (Jake) Eickhoff, Emily and Jessica Wertenberger of Falls City, Nebraska, and Aaron (Tiffany) Wertenberger and their children, Brecken, Leighton, Zoe, Sophie, and Millie of St. George, Kansas: and her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
