Linda E. Schaefer, 78, of Easton, KS passed away on June 11, 2026 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.
She was born on July 22, 1947 in Horton, KS, the daughter of Byron and Virginia Compton. Linda graduated from Willis High school in 1965 and from K-state in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She married Steve Schaefer on March 22, 1969 in Horton, KS, they share 57 years of marriage and two sons Russell and Rick Schaefer. Linda was a teacher in the Atchison school systems for 28 years.
She loved to spend time with her grandchildren Tyler, Zach, James, and Jonathan. Linda was also an avid sewer and cherished her three dogs, Cricket, Sweet Pea, and Reddi.
She is survived by her loving husband Steve Schaefer of Easton, KS, two sons, Russell (Rosanna) Schaefer of Lenexa, KS, and Rick (Tonya) Schaefer of Portland, OR, her 4 grandchildren, two sisters, Wanda Burdick and Nancy Lambert, and two brothers, Steven Compton and Kevin Compton.
The family will greet friends at visitation Monday evening June 15, 2026 from 6-7:30pm at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. Funeral service Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 10:30am at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, KS. Memorials may be made to the Linda Schaefer memorial fund to be designated later and sent in care of the mortuary.
