Patricia Rae (Barrow) Denton, “Patt”, age 89, of Doniphan County, Kansas, passed away on June 13, 2026, at the Pines of Hiawatha, where she had been a resident since 2019.
Patt was born on the 31st of July in 1936, on her parents’ farm east of Denton, Kansas, to Leslie Ray Barrow and Ruth Mabel (Albers) Barrow. She graduated from Doniphan County High School (DCCHS) in 1954.
After High School, Patt worked for Montgomery Ward in Atchison, Kansas. She also worked as an office manager at the Winchester Brothers Co-Op (now AG Partners) in Denton, Kansas.
Patt married Clifford Carpenter in 1957, and they had one son, Michael R Carpenter. She later married Edwin F Denton on December 5th, 1971. They were married for 24 years before Edwin’s passing in July of 1995. They had one son, Mark E Denton.
As a homemaker, Patt raised her family and enjoyed tending to her home and garden. She was a faithful and active member of Denton United Methodist Church, where she found both purpose and community. She devoted many years to teaching the young adult Sunday School class, guiding and encouraging others in their faith. She was also an active member of United Methodist Women (UMW), where she faithfully supported the church’s mission. Her church family was an important part of her life.
Patt moved to Bendena, Kansas, in the early 2000s and made her home there, living near two of her very close friends, Kay and Gary Godfrey. After moving to Bendena, she embraced opportunities to see more of the world. She explored destinations across the United States. She also treasured traveling internationally, particularly to Europe. These adventures brought lasting memories that she loved to share with family and friends.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. An avid reader, she was rarely without a good book. She enjoyed the focus of cross-stitch and took pride in the pieces she created. Three of her favorite bible verses were Ecclesiastes 3: 1-9, John 14: 2-6, and John 14: 27. She also loved working on crossword puzzles. A good cup of coffee was one of her daily comforts, and she enjoyed a classic Hershey’s bar.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff and caregivers at The Pines of Hiawatha, where she so lovingly made her home in her later years. She deeply appreciated the kindness and attentive care she received there. The staff became like an extended family, providing comfort, friendship, and support each day. Their dedication brought her peace and reassurance, and they will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Edwin. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Carpenter (Kim Carpenter) of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Mark Denton (Kimberly Denton) of Denton, Kansas. She also leaves behind two grandsons, Logan Carpenter and Noah Denton. Her surviving family includes her brother, Marion Barrow of Bozeman, Montana, and her sister, Linda Barrow of Iowa City, Iowa.
There will be a private graveside service at the Denton Cemetery in Denton, Kansas, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Denton United Methodist Church in Denton, Kansas, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 33, Highland 66035.
