Lucille M. Coder, 91, of Effingham, KS died on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Homestead Assisted Living, Atchison, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, at St. Ann's Church, with Fr. Roopesh Govindu and Abbot James Albers as Con-Celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Parish Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Tuesday at the church. Friends may view Lucille on Monday, July 6th, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Becker Chapel, 402 3rd St., Effingham, KS.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ann's Altar Society or Town & Country Senior Citizens Center and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, who is entrusted with her funeral services. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
Lucille was born on Feb. 7th, 1935, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Lawrence and Iona (Delzeit) Chain. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1951. She worked as executive assistant at Farmers and Merchant State Bank in Effingham/Exchange Bank for 35 years before retiring.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Effingham, KS, where she served as an officer for many years on the Altar Society, and was a member of the Choir, Welcoming Committee and Parish Center Coordinator. Lucille was active in her community, serving on the Effingham City Pool Committee, and as Winsome Dozen Bunko Club Coordinator. She attended and was active in supporting the Town & Country Senior Citizens Center. Lucille enjoyed quilting, yard work, gardening, raising flowers, and especially attending family activities and vacations.
She was married to Lyle D. Brown in Feb. 1953. Mr. Brown preceded her in death in Feb. 1965. She was later married to Otto Earl Coder on April 15, 1968, at St. Ann's Church in Effingham. Mr. Coder preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1993.
Survivors include sons Darrell W. Brown, Effingham, KS, Duane L. (Lisa) Coder, Effingham, KS, and stepson Gary D. (Mary Ann) Coder, West Branson, MO; three daughters Darla K. (David) Lanter, Effingham, KS, Brenda S. (Roger) Depenbusch, Cheney, KS, and Lori A. Jacobs, Cheney, KS; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; a sister LuAnne Frost, Effingham, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, and one sister, Leita Mae Coder.
