Eva Nelle Cox, 95, of Halstead Kansas formerly of Everest, Kansas passed away at Homestead of Halstead on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Eva Nelle was born January 18, 1931 at home in rural Livingston County Missouri the daughter and only child of Clarence T. and Lula Belle Davis Lewis. She graduated from Braymer High School, Braymer, Missouri in 1949. She then attended Chillicothe Business College. She was proud of her perfect attendance from grade school through Business College for a total of 13 years. She was known to do math problems in her head faster than a calculator. There she met Francis “Dean” Cox and were married on December 21, 1950 . They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage before Dean’s death on May 1, 2011. Eva Nelle was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years serving various positions.
She was active in the Everest community serving as the President of the Everest Chamber of Commerce. Besides overseeing the farm, Eva Nelle worked at Rainbow Telephone Coop., the elevator in Everest, the Post Office in Horton and retired from the Everest Post Office as Postmaster. She took her job seriously; driving an open cab tractor 6 miles in a blizzard just to make sure the Post Office was open. Eva Nelle’s greatest joy was being part of her grandkids’ and great grandkids’ lives.
She is survived by a son, Greggory Cox, daughter, Marcia Richling(Jim), 4 grandchildren Bonnie Stewart(Ian), Shelby Richling(Jaime), Derrick Richling(Heidi), Riley Richling(Michelle), and 7 great grandchildren, Tobi and Stevie Stewart, Tyson, Carter, Oliver, Paisley, and Eden Richling.
A private family burial is planned.
