Linus A. Huerter, 69, of rural Seneca, Kansas, died Friday, July 31, 2026, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born on January 2, 1957, in Seneca, Kansas, the youngest child of Anthony and Susanna (Heinen) Huerter. He grew up on the family farm near Kelly and attended St. Bede's Catholic Grade School and Nemaha Valley High School, graduating in 1975. Following the death of his father in 1962, Linus remained active in the family farming operation. When his mother moved to Seneca in 1983, he assumed ownership of the family farm, making it his home and devoting his life to farming and caring for the land. In addition to farming, Linus provided custom haying services for many area farmers.
Linus married Debra Burdiek, and they were blessed with two children, Anthony and Courtney, before later divorcing.
On June 3, 2006, he married Laura Murray at the Nordhus Pond east of Seneca.
Linus was a hardworking man who valued family, friendship, and the farming way of life. He enjoyed a nice glass of whiskey and Pepsi after a hard day's work and always appreciated a good visit with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Bede's Catholic Church in Kelly.
Survivors include his wife, Laura, of the home; his son, Anthony (Laura) Huerter of Lincoln, Nebraska; his daughter, Courtney (Andrew) Fritze of Atlantic, Iowa; his stepson, Matthew Murray of St. Joseph, Missouri; his siblings, Daryl (Katy) Huerter of Topeka, Maurice (Rosie) Huerter of Riverside, California, Betty Ann (Ed) Fischer of Topeka, and Lynn (Judy) Huerter of Silver Lake; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
