Debra A. Miles, a beloved wife, mother, “Brama”, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away August 8, 2026, at the KU Medical Center.
Debi was born on July 31, 1951, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Jo Nell (Shinabargar) and Francis Shaffer.
Debi was preceded in death by her beloved parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Miles, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. They married on March 22, 1986, in Wathena, Kansas, and together they raised three children: Steven Linder (Kelly), Heidi Garcia (John), and Scott Miles (Michelle). She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Prestan, Makaila, Emily, Madalyn, Alex, Carter and Cole and four Great-grandchildren – Peytan, Parker, Hunter and Dean. She is also survived by her Aunt Cece Shinabargar and Aunt Dolores Shinabargar.
Debi attended Webster Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1969. She worked for Wyeth Company in St. Joseph, followed by Stetson Hat Company and retired from Bo-La Services as a dispatcher in Newton, Kansas.
Debi was an active member of Bland Global Methodist Church and charter member of FD Relief, Rocky Branch Fire Department. She volunteered at 8th Street Meals in Rogers, Arkansas and supported Veterans Community Project to aid homeless veterans. In her willingness to help others she donated her organs for people in need.
Debi’s passions were collecting strawberries, butterflies, crafts, and organizing, along with sharing adventures with her husband, whether traveling, watching TV or enjoying meals together. Most of all, she cherished time with her family, which she called her “chickens”.
Debi was known for her loyalty, quick wit and sense of humor. She left her mark on everyone she met, with her kindness and generosity. Her love knew no bounds for those in distress, especially children.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Saint Luke’s South, Healthstar One, Life Flight, and The University of Kansas Health System for their exceptional care and professionalism during a very challenging time.
Debi’s love and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family; she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Service: 10: 00 A.M. Monday, August 17, 2026.
At the United Methodist Church, Wathena, Kansas.
Visitation: 2-4 P.M. Sunday afternoon at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena, Kansas. Friends may call after 11:00 A.M. Sunday.
Burial: Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena, Kansas.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Veterans Community Project or Donor’s Choice.
