Richard Lee Sloop, 26, of Seneca, KS passed away on August 26, 2026. He was born on May 11, 2000 in Paris, TN. He was placed with his forever parents, Scott and Rosie Sloop July 12, 2001 and officially adopted on November 5, 2007.
Richard attended and graduated from Nemaha Central High School in 2018. He was an active band member of Nemaha Central Band and played the tuba. He enjoyed shop classes and hanging out with friends.
Growing up Richard always knew he would be joining a branch in the military. On July 11, 2017, he signed for early entry into the Marine Corps. He spent his senior year traveling to St. Joseph, Missouri to train for basic training. July 9, 2018, he enlisted and left for Fort Pendleton in San Diego, California where he became a member of Second Battalion, Hotel Company, Platoon 2173 and graduated October 5, 2018. After a brief stay at home, Richard flew back to San Diego where he completed Combat Training from MCT West San Diego. He then attended A school in Pensacola, Florida, and C School at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida where he was certified as a F-35 Air Frame Mechanic. Richard spent the next 4 years and 2 months, serving his country in Japan at Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni. He had 3 deployments and was able to see other foreign countries and share that experience with family and friends. He received Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal (2), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Letter Of Appreciation, and Sharpshooter Rifle Qualification Badge. He was honorably discharged Corporal Richard Lee Sloop.
Richard discharged from the Marine Corps in July 2023 and returned back home. Richard was a hard worker, loved to help anyone who needed help with projects. He spent many days with his dad cutting firewood and many nights talking at home with his family. His hobbies included gunsmithing, blacksmithing, leather-working, 3D printing, and building nano Legos. He was a collector of Lego creations, lighters, pocket knives, swords, and firearms. He enjoyed playing computer/console games with his military buddies online, and card games with his friends on the weekends. Richard loved to read books, his knowledge of military history, planes, ships, firearms, and experience in the Marine Corps could lead to hours of conversations. Richard loved to talk to anyone and everyone.
Richard is survived by his parents, Scott and Rosie, a brother, Nicholas Sloop of Topeka, sisters, Makayla Sloop of Topeka, Makenna Sloop of Topeka, Regan Sloop of Seneca, and Alison Sloop of Seneca. Grandparents, Mary Moeller of Seneca, KS, Steve and Cindy Shaw of Silverlake, KS, and Keith Sloop of Holton, KS, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his grandmother, HyeSun Sloop on March 26, 2023 and grandfather Daryl Moeller on June 4, 2004.
Rosary will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 7 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, KS. Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, KS. Burial at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Memorials Scott Sloop are to be designated at a later date sent in care of the family.
