Kathy Lynn Schlax, 67, of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at her sister, Jean Becker home in rural Lancaster, Kansas.

She was born on June 4, 1959, in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Carol Eugene and Ruth Grace (Lanter) Smith.

Kathy graduated from the Horton High School. After high school she married Roger Schlax at the Everest Christian Church in Everest, Kansas, their marriage later ended in divorce. She worked as a manager in the Grocery Retail Industry for years.

In her earlier years she enjoyed boating and skiing at the Horton Mission Lake with her family. Kathy loved her flowers, spending time with her family and watching the hummingbirds.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Grace Smith of rural Everest, Kansas, three sons, Michael Schlax, Adam Schlax and Lukas Schlax all of the greater Kansas City area, four sisters, Jean (Tom) Becker of rural Lancaster, Kansas, Karen (Robert) Johnson of Lenexa, Kansas, Debbie (Mike) Snyder of Rural Valley Falls, Kansas and Linda (Mark) Crider of Stilwell, Kansas, one grandson, Nathan Schlax of Overland Park, Kansas.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Carol Smith.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Miller Cemetery east of Everest, Kansas.

Memorials may be sent to the Kathy Schlax memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
