Leonard Loman Hawk, 91, of Effingham, KS died on Monday, October 1st, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Friends may call from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm Thursday, Oct.8th, 2026, at the Becker Chapel in Effingham. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday. A graveside service and burial will be 11:00 AM on Friday, Oct. 9th at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Cochran officiating. The family request memorial contributions to the Effingham Union Church or Amberwell Hospice and may be sent to the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who provides cremation care. Leonard was born on March 2, 1935, in Effingham, KS, the son of Covell and Emma (Hinz) Hawk. He attended ACCHS and graduated in 1953. He was a farmer in the Effingham Community all his life.
He was an active member of the Effingham community. Leonard was member of the Effingham Union Church, was an original and life member of the local Lions Club, a past president of the At. Co. Fair Board, past president of the Kansas State Fair Board, director on the board of Farmers and Merchants State Bank, attended the 100th Atchison County High School Class Reunion, where he was named one of the top 100. Leonard enjoyed many hobbies such as antiquing, sports, and gardening. He greatly cherished life and loved spending time with his family.
Leonard was married to wife Shirley M Lassley on Oct. 17th, 1954, at the Horton Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2013. Survivors include three daughters Debbie (David) Parnell, Effingham, KS, Diana (Craig) Hulings, Carbondale, KS and Kate (Greg) Roque, Belgrade, Montana, three sons Terry (Diane) Hawk, Lawrence, KS, Tom (Cheryl) Hawk, Lancaster, KS, and Covell Hawk, Effingham, KS, a brother Duane (Mildred) Hawk, Effingham, KS, and a sister Venita Jo Rader, Atchison, KS, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, brother William “Billy” Hawk, sister Judy Kruse, and an infant sister.
