Judith Kay Douglas, 87, of Peru, Nebraska was born on March 13, 1939, in Blencoe, Iowa to Hedrick and Frances I. (Hime) Clay. Her father worked on the river, so their family moved often and to different places in Missouri and Iowa. There were some years when Judith attended two schools in one school year. The family settled in Peru, Nebraska in 1952 and Judith attended Peru Prep High School.
On June 25, 1955, Judith was united in marriage to Richard Douglas at Baptist Church in Peru, Nebraska. To this union the couple were blessed with five daughters, Bonnie, Betty, Janet, Johnnie, and Linda were born. The couple raised their girls in Peru and over the years Judith worked for various factories in the Nebraska City area, and the sewing and wood carve factory in Auburn. She was a member of the Peru Community Church and the Peru Cemetery Auxiliary. Judith enjoyed gardening, yard work, and sewing, especially for her five beautiful girls. She was very good at drawing and painting as well.
Judith passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at her home in Peru, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-seven years, six months, and sixteen days. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard (2001), grandson Trent, granddaughter Jessie Smith, great-grandson Henry Cotton, parents-in-law Boldy and Ruby Douglas, and son-in-law Richard “Rick” Haith.
Judith is survived by her loving daughters: Bonnie Marie Haith of Brock, NE; Betty Jean Hunter and husband Curt of Trade, TN; Janet Lee Hope of Peru, NE; Johnnie Sue Casas and husband Jose of Andrews, TX; Linda Sue Portrey and husband Pat of Shubert, NE; 11 grandchildren;25 great-grandchildren; her sister Barbara Paul and husband Ronald of Missouri Valley, IA; sister-in-law Shirley Douglas of Peru, NE; brother-in-law Jack Douglas of Chase, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Peru Community Church in Peru, Nebraska with Pastor Jackie Gfeller officiating. Interment will immediately follow services at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Peru, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Peru Cemetery Auxiliary.
