Seneca Free Library Celebrates National Mutt Day

Tuesday, December 2, is National Mutt Day. Sure, you can spend hundreds of dollars or more on a purebred pup with papers and pedigrees, then hope that whatever chronic condition regularly follows that breed doesn't hit your particular pooch (neurosis, volatility, territorial tendencies, hip dysplacia, breathing disorders, puppy mill problems, etc.), or you can check out the original pound puppy! A mutt may not be guaranteed to avoid all of those problems, but their odds are significantly better, especially where behavioral and psychological tendencies are concerned. Sadly, mutts are often more susceptible to abandonment and can regularly be found in shelters or at the pound. But what a breeder or mill runner couldn't put a price tag on for profit is often an invaluable treasure to the family that takes them in.
