My name is Bri Guilliams, Hiawatha High School Student. For my work experience, I go to Hiawatha Elementary School. At the elementary school, I job shadow a first-grade teacher named Erin Sudbeck. I chose her because she's an amazing teacher and she taught me when I was in first grade. I picked this for my work experience because I wanted to try it out to see if being a teacher is something I might want to do after high school. I also chose this because I love teaching the little first graders and helping them learn.
I’ve learned a lot from my work experience. For example, I’ve learned how each of Mrs. Sudbeck's first graders learns and what teaching methods work best to ensure that each of them is learning something, even when they learn at different speeds. I have also learned what keeps them interested and engaged in what they are doing. Overall, I am very grateful for the opportunity to do this and to work with such an amazing teacher and group of kids.
