Several HMS students participated in the Future City competition, sponsored by Evergy, this past weekend in Topeka. This competition has students design and create a sustainable city 100 years in the future. They have to present to a panel of judges and answer questions as well. Each year focuses on a different theme, and this year was Farm to Table, eliminating food waste. We had two groups participate by taking the elective class and working before and after school to fine tune their presentations. Both groups did an amazing job working through the engineering design process and including many STEAM innovations!
Sustainable Sanctuary consisted of group members:
Braylon Kuehn, Luke Tietjens, Brody Nigus, Brentley Andres, Colbin Bachman, and Cason Goforth.
Green Grove, taking 9th place out of 35 teams, consisted of Lily Edwards, Piper Jensen, Blake Brown, Maleah Brown, and Michael Finch.
We would like to thank our wonderful mentors for volunteering many hours with us: Tom Martin and Cheri Pavlish.
Our fantastic t-shirts were donated by Shirt Shack; thank you Roni Tietjens!
