Betty Louise Alley

Betty “Louise” Alley, 84, of Holton, KS passed away June 28, 2014 at Holton Community Hospital. She was born July 4, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA the daughter of Lawrence G. and Thelma M. (Mead) Hoyt. When Louise was 6 years old, her mother passed away; she was raised by her step-mother, Pauline (Wilson) Hoyt.

 

Louise graduated from Berryton High School in 1948 and attended Chillicothe Business College. She worked for United Telephone Company from 1949 – 1955 and again from 1973 -1979. Louise was also a homemaker and later worked for SRS as a switchboard operator for 12 years; retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Baptist Church and had been attending Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and charter member of Elk Creek Good Sam’s Club.

 

She married Warren Jay Alley on July 16, 1950 in Holton. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry G. Hoyt and half-sister, Larabeth Klimowski.

 

Survivors include a son, Lyle R. Alley (Sally) of Circleville, KS; 3 daughters, Cheryl K. Farmer (Doug) of Topeka, KS, Lisa L. Philipp (Mike) of Holton, KS and Lori H. Porubsky of Topeka, KS; a brother, Ronald “Joe” Hoyt of Spokane, WA; a sister, F. Lavon VanSelow (Al) of Stockton, CA; 2 step-sisters, Rebecca Onstott (Ray) of Hubbard, TX and Sue Stokes of Valley Mills, TX; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. July 1, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening.
