John F. Duffield, 90, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Oak Creek Senior Living in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 29, 1923, at the family home south of Denison, the son of Brice C. and Laura Bolz Duffield.
John was a farmer-stockman. He had worked as a dairyman for Lee Tichenor, at the C, G & F Elevator in Topeka, and as a school bus driver for USD 338 at Valley Falls. He had been a laborer on the Perry Dam project. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls, where he had served as a deacon.
He married Grace M. Call, on May 16, 1960, at Valley Falls. She died Aug. 6, 1987. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Tichenor, a step-daughter, Susan Mitchell, and a granddaughter, Janelle Mitchell.
Survivors include a daughter, Lori (Lee) Hinman, Valley Falls; three step-sons, Rev. Galen (Jeanette) Call, Colorado Springs, CO, Steven (LeEtta) Call, Shawnee, and John Call, and his wife Cindy Eichman-Call, Olathe; a brother, Willard Duffield, Hoyt; son-in-law, Louie Mitchell, Valley Falls; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren;  and a close friend, Ione Botkin, Winchester.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 am Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 pm Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. John will lie in state after 3:00 pm Wednesday.
