Sherrie L. Mattox, 76, Platte City, Missouri formerly of Atchison, Kansas died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.  Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Sherrie was born August 19, 1937 in Highland, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Lucille Dunn Weiland.  She attended schools in Highland, Kansas graduating from Highland High School.  She attended and graduated from Highland Community Junior College, Highland then served as a teacher in Nebraska and later served as an instructor of custodial services at Northeast Kansas Vocational Technical School in Atchison and worked in the pressroom for the Atchison Daily Globe until her retirement.

She and Curtis Mattox were united in marriage on December 29, 1962 in Fanning, Kansas.  Mr. Mattox preceded her in death on November 7, 1995.

She enjoyed crocheting, crafting and sewing in her spare time and was an avid KU basketball fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Amy (Fred) Portenier, Platte City, MO, Jill Simmons, and companion Garrison Michael, Platte City, MO, four grandchildren, C. J. Portenier, Brandon Simmons, Dillon Portenier, Madison Portenier, two step daughters, Karen Eslinger, St. Joseph, MO, Barb Eslinger, St. Joseph, MO, four step sons, Clayton Mattox, Stafford, KS, Steve Mattox, Stafford, KS, Russell Mattox, Rushville, MO, Darrell Mattox, St. Joseph, MO, a brother, Galen Weiland, Bendena, KS, a sister, Hannah “Jody” Weiland, Hiawatha, KS, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucille Weiland, a daughter, Lori Mattox, a brother, Allen D. Weiland, two sisters, Marsha Simpson and Paulette Staudenmaier.
