John Alfred Jacobson, 71, of rural Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014, at his home. He was born on February 8, 1943, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Alfred John and Grace Fulk Jacobson. After graduating from High School he attended college, before going into the work force. He worked for Quaker Oaks in St. Joseph, Missouri for twenty seven years, the last several years, in the ready to eat department. Before retiring, he worked at Werner Wagon Works, a job he loved. On April 13, 1968 he married Iva Kay Berry at the Zion Lutheran Church in Everest, Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include four sons; Richard Lee Jacobson of Lawrence, Kansas, Michael Ray (Paula) Jacobson of Horton, Kansas, Joseph John (Jonna) Jacobson of Everest, Kansas and Nathan Will (Amanda) Jacobson of Horton, Kansas; one step daughter, Melody (Glenn) Ezzell of St. Joseph, Missouri; seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale Joseph Jacobson and grandson, Joshua Richard Jacobson. Funeral services will be 1:30 Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. The family will greet friends at the mortuary on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas.
