Leslie Curtis (Curt) DuBois (Sog-Nuck-Shuck), 48, of Lakewood, Ohio entered the spirit world on August 8, 2014. Curt was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 11, 1965; and was as he called himself; an original Cleveland Indian. He was the son of Les DuBois, Lakewood, Ohio and Delila Cadue DeBois, Horton, Kansas. His grandparents were the late Frank and Alberta Cadue of Netawaka, Kansas and the late Fred and Lily DuBois of Ft. Totten, North Dakota. Curt was an enrolled member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, and was part Spirit Lake Sioux of North Dakota; and was very proud of this native heritage. He was a member of the Kennekuk Religion, and was also a baptized Catholic. Curt graduated from Lakewood High School, Lakewood, Ohio, and worked as a journeyman pipefitter for many years. He was well know in the Lakewood area, in his younger years as an avid bowler, softball and rugby player, and also had a love for singing. In high school he was on the wrestling team, and took photographs for the school yearbook, Curt had a love of photography. While in high school during his junior year in welding class he and one of his classmates made a metal sculpture which is still on display in the Beck Cultural Center, Lakewood, Ohio. Having grown up in Cleveland, he had a large circle of friends, to many of his friends, he was known as "Chief". Many of them loved to hear him sing karaoke, and sing he did, winning many contests. Curt loved NASCAR, and win or lose his Cleveland sports teams, Ohio State Buckeyes and the KU Jayhawks. In recent years he started doing beadwork, making earrings, bracelets, key chains and various other items. He had a knack for color and did beautiful work. He made several pair of baby moccasins for his friends when they were expecting babies. He said it doesn't matter what color skin you have, what nationality you are; all babies need moccasins. He had a big giving heart when it came to friends. Curt had natural ability to make friends, and that he did. He had a personality, grin and laugh that shone wherever he went. Once you knew Curt you were a friend for life. He remembered all he met, and when he came back to the reservation; he remembered his elders, treating them with respect at all times. Curt is survived by his father, Les Dubois, Lakewood, Ohio, mother, Delila Cadue DuBois, Horton, Kansas, sister, Cheryl Dubois (Rich Mendoza), Richard Mendoza Jr, Olivia DuBois Mendoza, Raymond Paul Mendoza all of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Aunt Nellie Cadue and Uncle Wesley "Bucky" Cadue both of Horton, Kansas. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in Kansas, North Dakota and other parts of the USA. Kennekuk Indian Church wake services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. at the Kickapoo Community Building. Final services will start at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday morning with burial at the Kennekuk Cemetery.
