Frances Cordell, 79, of Soldier, KS passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at her home.

She was born March 30, 1935 in Morrill, Kansas the daughter of Thomas J. and Alma Faye (Pasco) Barton. After graduating from Soldier High School in 1952 Frances married her high school sweetheart, Earl Cordell, in Holton. The couple just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 29th. She had lived in the Soldier Community for most of her life.  Frances was a farmwife on the family farm and had worked at Slimaker Dress Factory from 1954-1955, while Earl served in the United States Army.  She was a member of the Soldier United Methodist Church and the Soldier Unit. She served as a leader in the Soldier Boosters 4-H Club and the Soldier Election Board.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Cordell, of the home; her daughter, Candace Thomas (Bob) of Topeka, KS; her sons, Lynn Cordell (Rita) of Holton, KS, Lyman Cordell (Julie) of Platte City, MO; Larry Cordell (Jo) of Havensville, KS; her sister, Naomi Everly of Osage City, KS; her 8 grandchildren, Jason Shove of Topeka, KS, Kari Struemph of Silver Spring, MD, Eric Cordell of Gig Harbor, WA, Jen Cordell of Fullerton, CA, Amanda Cordell of Soldier, KS, Wyatt Cordell of Havensville, KS, Brianne Cordell and Jordyn Cordell both of Platte City, MO; and her 5 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Olivet, Ivy and Avangeline Shove and Lane Hinck.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 8th, 2014 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Soldier Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Holton Community Hospital Hospice or the Butterfly Room and may be left in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
