Nedra J. Boyce, 49, Valley Falls, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at the Holton Community Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1965, at Holton, the daughter of Roy Jay and Mary L. Cox Maxfield. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1983.

Nedra was a homemaker and caretaker for her family. She had worked in the cafeteria at USD 338 in Valley Falls, cleaned homes and lovingly cared for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and was a lifetime participant in 4-H activities. She was a club leader for the Valley Victors 4-H Club and a Jefferson County 4-H Fair Beef Superintendent for 18 years.

She married Frank Boyce on Dec. 10, 1983, at Valley Falls. They farmed and raised cattle north of Valley Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Frank, of the home; three sons, Casey (Cassie) Boyce, Holton, Aron (Krista) Boyce, Oskaloosa, and Dustin (Sara) Boyce Effingham; five grandchildren, McKayla, Taygen, Braxton, Alannah and Brooklyn; and a brother Charles Maxfield, Butler, MO.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Coal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
