Doris Mae Gallagher died October 4, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer, having reached the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 16 days. She was born at home near Beattie, Kansas on May 18, 1933, the oldest child and only daughter of George and Elnora (Genschoreck) Rombeck.

Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell, KS.

Rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening at 7 P.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Axtell, KS.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Fr. Jim Hauser will officiate.

Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery. Pall bearers are Tyler Bursovsky, Tony Bursovsky, Evan Eckhout, Brandon Gallagher, Travis Robeson, Jeremy Wilburn, Lenny Muldoon and Robby Muldoon. Honorary pall bearers are Jerry Gallagher, Jeff Rombeck, Dave Strathman, Darrell Heinen, and Don Strohmeyer.

Doris attended Life School, (a country school near her home) through 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Beattie High School as a member of the Class of 1951. After graduation she worked at the Phillip's Drug Store until she married Leonard Gallagher on April 21, 1954. To this union eight children were born. Together Leonard and Doris Mae worked the farm, ran a dairy and raised hogs over the years. In 1988 they sold the farm and moved to Axtell.

Doris was a loving and devoted farm wife. She loved to crochet, embroidery, and make hand-made quilts. Each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have a quilt that she made for them. She also loved to garden, play cards, and travel, and attend as many functions as possible that her grandchildren were involved in.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, the Wednesday Card Club, the Thursday Card Club, and the Stitch and Chatter Club. For many years she enjoyed singing in the Church Choir. She volunteered her time for over 15 years to assist praying the Rosary with the residents of the Seneca Nursing Home. She also cared for the flowers at St. Michael's Church for several years.

She was proceeded in death by her husband in 1993, her oldest son David in 2003, her parents, and parents in law, 3 brothers-in-law, and 3 sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her children Dennis of Herkimer, KS, Donald of Axtell, KS, Daniel and his wife Jean of Blue Rapids, KS, Deloris and her husband Todd White of Steinauer, NE, Donna and her husband Mark Muldoon of Austin, TX, Darlene of Axtell, KS, Darrell of Frankfort, KS, and daughter-in-law Vicky of Atoka, TN; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren; brothers Melvin and wife Sherri Rombeck of Bethany, MO, Alfred and wife Dorothy Rombeck of Home City, KS; two brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law, along with numerous extended family and friends.
