Anderson Spencer, “Buster” 86, Atchison, Kansas died peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughter Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.


Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. at the church.


Anderson Spencer was born November 10, 1927 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Anderson T. Spencer and Carrie Dudley.  He attended the former Lincoln School and Atchison High School.
As a young man Anderson served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1950.


Anderson moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a time and was employed at various companies until returning home to Atchison, Kansas where he worked for Swift Packing House, St. Joseph, Missouri until his retirement in 1991.  Following his retirement he worked as a bus driver for Atchison Project Concern.


One of his favorite pastimes was to go fishing with his Uncle Dudley and his cousin Lonnie.  He enjoyed driving down to the river bank to watch the Missouri River while listening to blues music.  He also enjoyed watching western movies “shoot em ups” and the Kansas City Chiefs football games on television.


He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Anna Mae Winrow and Rose Spencer.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dorothy Lee “Sassy” Spencer, five daughters, Wanda (Charles) Hill, Joyce (Marquees) Williams, Annie (Kirk) Bogard, LaeLynn Brown, Carolyn (Tim) Fields; two sons, Larry (Tasha) Neal, Charles (Angela) Neal; two step-daughters; nine step-sons; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; four brothers, A. L. (Sylvia) Stafford, James (Jacquelyn) Spencer, Allen (Rose) Spencer and Sylvester Spencer; two sisters, Linda Spencer and Christine Spencer;  Aunt, Arthine Hunter and Uncle, William (Dorothy) Dudley; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
