Joan Loyd

Joan M. Loyd of Quincy, ILLinois and formerly of Brown County passed away on October 6, 2014, at a healthcare facility in Quincy, Illinois at the age of 85.  
She was born August 26, 1929, in Horton, Kansas, to Gustav T. Larson and Bernice Larson.  She had attended the University of Kansas. Joan married Harold L. Loyd in 1949. They moved from Brown County, Kansas, to St. Joseph in 1953. Harold preceded her in death in 2011. 
Joan was an avid reader and skilled painter who enjoyed sharing her talents with others. Her family, friends, and Christian faith were cherished parts of her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joan is survived by a brother, James J. Larson, of Hiawatha, Kansas; a sister, Carol A. Beck, of Leavenworth, Kansas; three children, Jere (Sheridan) Loyd, St. Joseph; Janice Jackson, St. Joseph; and David (Leslie) Loyd, Quincy, Illinois; four granddaughters, Nicole (Dan) Martin, Truckee, California; Christina (Mike) Jackson-Jeffery, Kansas City; Rebekah Loyd and Rachel Loyd, both of Quincy, Illinois; and two great grandchildren, Ethan Martin and MariLynne  Jackson-Jeffery.
Services:  1:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph, Missouri, Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America are encouraged, in care of the funeral home.
