Bonnie Hill Williams

Bonnie Hill Williams, 61, of Highland, died shortly after arrival at St Francis Hospital in Topeka, Monday morning, November 3, 2014.

She was born June 9, 1953, at St. Joseph, Missouri, one of four children born to Kenneth and Patricia Ann Schwarzel Hill.  Bonnie grew up helping her Dad on the family farm raising crops and livestock, southeast of Highland.  She was active in 4 H from the age of 7 until 18.  In school, she played cornet, basketball, won the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award, and was salutatorian of the class of 1971 at Highland High School (Blue Streaks). She received an associate of arts degree from Highland Community College in 1973, where she was a music major and belonged to the Lads and Lassies choral group.  Bonnie worked to obtain her nursing home activity director certification from Kansas City, Kansas Community College in 2001, and worked at Highland Healthcare from 1998-2012, all the while working as the secretary for Highland Christian Church from November of 1978 until Spring 2014.

Bonnie married Ted Williams, November 10, 1977, at Liberty, MO.  They were blessed with two children:  Amanda and Kenneth.  The family lived on the family farm for 10 years before moving into Highland to make their home

Bonnie sang with the Fine Arts Community Singers for 35 years, performing selections from Handel’s Messiah at area churches every year on Passion and Palm Sunday.  She enjoyed music of all kinds, riding the golf cart with her grandchildren, garage sales, reading, teaching Bible Club, and shopping with her daughter and grand-daughter.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and a brother Ronnie in 1995.

Survivors include her husband Ted of the home;  her children:  Amanda Slupianek (Chris) of Parkville, MO, Kenneth Williams of Hiawatha; two beloved grandchildren:  Ashlyn and Jax Slupianek; two sisters:  Connie Tyree (Tommy) of Riverton, KS, Karen Horton (Mike) of Olathe; KS; and numerous, cousins and friends.

Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Bonnie’s life planned for 11 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Highland Christian Church, with Pastor J.B. Skaggs and Sam Blythe officiating.

The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Friday at the Church.
