William E. “Butch” Ashworth, 71 years old of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Troy, Kansas, went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on November 16, 2014, after a tough battle with cancer.

He was of the Christian faith and a member of The Troy Christian Church.
Butch was born May 18, 1943 to Earl and Helen (Ptomey) Ashworth. He graduated from Troy High School in 1961. He married Sharon Akles on May 2, 1962, in Troy, she survives at home. Additional survivors include daughters Shari (Clint) Israel and Mendi (Darrel) Marriott of Troy. Son, Greg (Lori) Ashworth of St. Joseph. Grandchildren, Cory Clary of Troy, Mitch (Amy) Clary of St. Joseph, Danielle (Jared) Sutherland of South Carolina, Morgan and Mallory Ashworth of St. Joseph, 5 great-grandchildren, sister, Susie Cooke of Troy and many special nieces, nephews, family and friends. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bo and Ronnie, sisters, Evelyn Brownlee, Jean Thomas and Mary Larkin.

Butch wore many hats throughout his life. He worked at Dugdale’s Packing Plant, then later owned and operated Butch’s IGA grocery store in Troy for many years. Most recently, in 2006, he opened and operated Mr. Goodcents in St. Joseph, retiring earlier this year. He was a skilled butcher and enjoyed processing deer, beef and hogs for family and friends. He liked to fish, mushroom hunt and travel, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. He also took great pleasure in helping anyone in need and could be seen on cold days delivering hot soup and sandwiches to the homeless, that is just the kind of man he was.
Butch never new a stranger and probably best known for his practical jokes, that he enjoyed every chance he got. To sum up the way he lived life, work honest, play hard and love deep. Butch has touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.
