Rural Dubois , NE

Fred William Frey, 80, of DuBois, Nebraska was born in rural Richardson County, Nebraska, the eldest son of Jake and Laura Yoesel Frey.  His family spent his childhood on a farm south of Bern.  Fred graduated from Bern High School in May of 1952.  From 1953-1957 he served our country in the United States Navy as a Seabees in Construction detail.  He was stationed in the Philippines as well as Alaska.  He then attended Kansas State University on the GI Bill and was an active member of the meat judging team.  Fred graduated with a BS in Animal Science and moved back home to rural DuBois where he began his future in agriculture.

Fred was united in marriage on April 15, 1961 to Alda Mae Tanking of Seneca, Kansas.  To this union were born three children-Howard, Cynthia, and Roy.  Fred enjoyed farming and livestock and was a past president of the Richardson County Farm Bureau.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing world events and politics.  He loved his five grandchildren and keeping up with their many activities.  Fred was an active member of the Charles Fankhauser American Legion Post 326 and Sabetha VFW.  He enjoyed helping with Veterans Day activities, parades, and was honored to have served our country.  He had deep regard for our founding fathers and enjoyed an 80th birthday trip to Washington D.C. with his brother.  Fred was a gentle man who would rather listen and observe than talk.  His quiet spirit and soft heart will be remembered by all those who knew him. He loved his Maker and understood that his personal relationship with Him through Jesus wasn't found in any specific denomination.  Fred died peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, Kansas having reached the age of eighty years, seven months, and twenty-seven days.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Fred is survived by his sons: Howard Frey of Humboldt, NE; Roy (Shari) Frey of Sabetha, KS; daughter Cindy (Russ) Wilfert of Mesa, AZ; five grandchildren: Jacqueline Frey of Lawrence, KS; Jacob Frey of Manhattan, KS; Broderick Frey of Sabetha, KS; Jenna Wilfert and Caden Wilfert of Mesa, AZ; and his dog Katy; brother John (Anne) Frey of Mankato, MN; a sister Doris (Larry) Sher of Shawnee, KS; and many other relatives and friends.
