Marion L. Peters

Marion L. Peters was called to rest in the arms of her beloved Jesus on December 6, 2014 at her home in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Marion, the oldest of Carl and Inga Nelson’s five children was born near Stavely, Alberta, Canada on September 21st, 1922.  Marion was a 1941 graduate of Stavely High School and a 1945 graduate of Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing.  She started her nursing career in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  After one year, Marion relocated to Minneapolis, MN where she worked as an RN from 1946-1951.

 Marion was united in marriage with Raymond Peters on October 21, 1951 in Minneapolis MN.   After their marriage, they settled on the Peters family farm near Elk Creek, Nebraska.  Marion was confirmed into the Lutheran faith @ St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in 1953.  To this union, three children were born : Gary, Susan and Shelley. 

Marion worked as an RN at the Johnson County hospital and Maple Grove Home until 1973.  She was involved in many organizations throughout her life including the Johnson County Extension Club, Dozen Jolly Dozen Extension, Southeast Quad County Porkettes and St. Peter’s Dorcas Society.  Marion was a fantastic cook with excellent baking skills.  She was an accomplished seamstress, loved to do needle work, cross stitch, read, play cards and travel. She was a very kind, optimistic, happy lady, always with a smile on her face and willing to help others selflessly.

Marion is survived by her three children:  Gary Peters and wife Kathy of Elk Creek, Susan George of Lincoln and Shelley Allen and husband Mike of Cook, grandchildren:  Sean Peters and wife Missy, Derick Peters and wife Kimberly, Carrie George and Joel Buysee,  Trevor George,  MaKayla and Jesse Allen and Jennifer Wendland and husband John.   Marion loved spending time with her great grandchildren; Braxton, Carson, Tyson, Ella, Jerrico, Tayler and Braydin.

Marion is also survived by her brothers:  Edwin and wife Ottalie Nelson and Roy and wife Jo Nelson all of Alberta, Canada; sister Astrid Lamotte of Dawson Creek, BC and sister- in- law Ruth Hurst of South Carolina and  many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents:  Carl and Inga Nelson, her beloved husband Raymond, brother Art Nelson, sisters-in-law Nora Nelson, Gladys Nelson and Shirley Nelson, Alma Carmine, Eleanor Gottula, Ruby Peters and brothers-in-law Lou Lamotte, Jake Peters, Mike Carmine, Richard Gottula and Hudson Hurst.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, southwest of Elk Creek, Nebraska, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating.  

Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.  Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska.  Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
