Freddy Gilbert

Freddy Gilbert, 79, of Carbondale formerly of Everest and Horton, KS, died Sunday December 7, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Freddy was born August 18, 1935 in Sabetha, KS the son of John and Dora (Halstead) Gilbert. He grew up and attended schools in NE Kansas.

He worked for the Everest Elevator for 12 years, delivered lumber for the Everest Lumberyard for 3 years, owned and operated G & F Oil for many years, owned and operated Gilbert Lumber for 4 years and was a Master Carpenter for Gilbert Construction for 30 years.

Freddy was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church. He was on the Everest City Council for a term, and a member of the Everest Fire Dept. Freddy enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in his spare time.

He is survived by his children; John A. and Mary Gilbert of Del City, OK, Katherine R. and Tom Coffman of Cummings, Timothy L. Gilbert and Deborah Glidden of Carbondale, KS, Andrew S. and Bernadette Gilbert of St. Joseph, MO, Lynn M. and David Rodvelt of Hiawatha, Judith A. and Brian Palmateer of Everest, KS, and 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings; Allan, Lloyd, Johnny, Leonard, Mildred Gilbert, and an infant brother Donnie Gilbert.

Funeral Services are planned for 10 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Father Dan Gardner of St. Leo’s Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Powhattan Cemetery.

Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday where open visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. that evening.
