Dorothy Vanderwall

Dorothy I. Vanderwall, 86, formerly of Topeka, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Atchison Senior Village in Atchison.

She was born December 15, 1925 at Muscotah, the daughter of Roscoe A. and Jessie Eulalie Hawk Beyer. She lived in Atchison County to the age of nine, and with her family moved to Holton in 1934. In 1947 she moved to Topeka where she lived until 2009, when she moved to Atchison.

Mrs. Vanderwall graduated from Holton High School in 1943 and attended Kansas University. She taught in a country school in JacksonCounty for three years. Later she was a receptionist for a chiropractor for thirteen years. She was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church.

She married Harold A. Vanderwall May 6, 1944 in Topeka at the First Methodist Church.

He survives at home.

She was preceded in death by her mother on October 17, 1963, and her father on May 16, 1993, and a sister, Beverly Bistline, on October 5, 2011.

Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Connie Rae & Larry R. Mears, Atchison; two granddaughters and their husbands, Amy & Greg Herman, Olathe, and Shelley & John Cox, Jr., Gardner; five great-grandchildren, Jake Robert Herman, Madeline Ruth Herman, Carolyn Ann Herman, Savannah Rae Cox and Katherine Anne Cox. Also surviving is a brother, Milton S. Beyer, Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14th at the Holton Cemetery. Dorothy will lie in state Friday and until service time Saturday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Saturday morning for a short prayer, then go in procession to the cemetery.
